Who needs alcohol to have fun? Katy Perry looks relaxed in Brazil as she sips on orange juice whilst dining out with friends

Make mine an orange: Katy Perry seemed in a good mood as she dined out with friends at the Porcao restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil


She may be rehearsing for one of the biggest performances of her career, but it seems that Katy Perry doesn't need to drink alcohol to calm her nerves.

The 26-year-old pop star touched down in Rio de Janeiro yesterday ahead of her appearance at the Rock N' Rio Music Festival and, after rehearsing, headed out to dinner with a group of friends.

The I kissed a Girl singer wore a butterfly print maxi dress with halterneck straps and purple jewelled sandles for her night out at the Porcao restaurant in Brazil.


Still sporting her blonde and pink locks, the star also wore a butterfly in her hair and a pair of gold chandelier earrings.

After laughing with friends over dinner, Katy left the restaurant and happily posed for photographs with waiting fans before making her way to a waiting car.

The star was probably shattered after her flight, and day of rehearsals.

The legendary festival in Rio de Janeiro, which is the biggest in the world, often has an attendance rate in the hundreds of thousands so Katy obviously wants to nail her performance.

The star paid tribute to another singer, Portuguese Brazilian-born Carmen Miranda, by arriving at the airport wearing a mask that resembled the famous samba singer - who was famous for wearing a fruit hat on her head.

Equally eccentric Katy, who once donned a strawberry suit, was greeted by hundreds of fans at Rio de Janeiro airport as he wore a short black and white polka dot mini dress and carried a Chanel handbag.

In a jovial mood she laughed and larked around with one of the members of her entourage, who also donned the same mask.

Much like Katy's zany outfits, Carmen Miranda's unconventional style was recognised around the world.

Miranda's enormous, fruit-laden hats are now considered iconic.

The wacky attire even led to a specially designed line of turbans and jewelry sold at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1939.

In fact, Carmen-inspired costume jewelry is still highly valued and sought after by collectors.

After a hugely successful year, Katy has recently been revealed as the first female artist ever to have five number one singles from one album, Teenage Dream.

The star's recent world tour was also a sell out.

Last month she also picked up two gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards, including the prestigious Video of the Year award for her hit song Firework.

For her latest overseas trip, Katy was once again was forced to be apart from her husband Russell Brand.

What would Russell think? Later she was seen on stage rehearsing for the legendary festival Rock N' Rio Music with some topless men


The couple have spent much of this year apart due to their work commitments following their marriage in October last year.

Ever since, they have weathered a number of rumors about the state of their marriage but have primarily chose not to acknowledge the gossip.

Perry said in an interview for her True Hollywood Story that because she was such an 'open book' in most areas of her life, their relationship was something she wanted 'to keep for myself.'

Zany: Just like Miranda, Katy has donned numerous eccentric outfits on stage, including a corset laden with fruit and a rubber dress with printed pink palm trees


A spokesperson for Brand is yet to respond to Mail Online's request for comment.

Brand has just wrapped filming on the star-studded film Rock of Ages.

He will be appearing alongside Tom Cruise, Malin Akerman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough and Paul Giammati in the blockbuster, about the rock scene in Eighties Hollywood.
