Golden girl: Sarah Burton, dressed in one of her own creations, makes her first public appearance since designing Kate's wedding dress
After designing the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding gown, Sarah Burton is the toast of the fashion world.
And last night, her peers finally got the chance to raise a glass to her as she stepped onto the red carpet at the glittering gala ball held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Dressed in a diaphanous white gown of her own creation, Sarah Burton looked every inch the star.

Earlier that day Burton had rubbed shoulders with other fashion dignitaries at a preview of the museum's newly opened Alexander McQueen exhibition.
The designer viewed the much-anticipated collection alongside Stella McCartney, whose creations were set to be worn by a number of guests at the gala ball, and U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour
Speaking to the assembled guests, Mrs Burton, who was McQueen's protegee and successor at the helm of his fashion house, refused to comment further on the Royal dress.
Instead, she paid tribute to her mentor, saying simply that the retrospective was a fitting homage.
Fashion's golden boy: The Met's Savage Beauty exhibition will chart the career of Alexander McQueen
She said: 'When I walked into the exhibit, I thought of Lee...the passion, inspiration.'
Ms McCartney, who had not a trace of baby weight after giving birth to daughter Reiley in November, and also trained under McQueen, added: 'When I think of him, I think of red roses.'
Tonight's ball, one of the biggest nights in the fashion calendar, will also pay tribute to the late designer, who took his own life last year.
Works of art: McQueen's designs 'constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion'
Savage Beauty: McQueen was known for using high contrast in his work, marring dark and light, and soft and hard. It is a skill Mrs Burton has inherited and continued in the label's designs since his death
On display: Model Coco Rocha admitted that she had a hard time choosing which McQueen gown to wear for the ball tonight because many of the best looks were part of the exhibit
Moment in the spotlight: Both the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton wore Alexander McQueen creations on Friday. Catherine also wore another McQueen creation for the evening reception
The exhibition will be open to the public from May 4, and will run until July 31. For more details, visit metmuseum.org
