I'm not too thin insists Ulrika after viewers heckle her wobbly Let's Dance performance on Twitter

By Simon Neville

Ulrika Jonsson has hit back at criticism that she appeared dangerously thin and unsteady on her feet during a television appearance.

The former weather girl said it was a ‘miracle’ she had even managed to perform on BBC One’s Let’s Dance for Sport Relief as she suffers from an agonising back problem.

But viewers insisted the 44-year-old looked worryingly underweight during Saturday night’s show.

Miss Jonsson said: ‘For the record, I am not underweight. And I do suffer from a debilitating chronic back condition.

'It was a miracle I was able to take part at all.

‘And with only four rehearsals, I reckon we did a bloody good job.’

Wearing a long red and black dress with matching heels, Miss Jonsson performed a tango to Roxanne by The Police during the fundraising show.

She danced with comedian Angelos Epithemiou – real name Dan Skinner – who is her co-star on BBC panel show Shooting Stars.

But on Twitter, viewers voiced their concerns.

Jess Ward wrote: ‘Ulrika Jonsson looks painfully thin. Really don’t think that’s a good look.’

Another user, Alice Ashworth, said: ‘Ulrika, put some weight on, love.’

Robyn Crossey added: ‘Ulrika Jonsson proving that thin does not mean healthy on Let’s Dance for Sport Relief. Stick thin and wrecked after her dance.’

At the end of the routine, the mother of four appeared unsteady on her feet and was unable to answer questions put to her by hosts Alex Jones and Steve Jones.

But she explained afterwards: ‘I don’t walk well in high heels – let alone dance in them.’

She revealed last year that she has a degenerative back condition which robbed her of her appetite.
