Feeling blue? Nicki Minaj gets creative with the body paint in an eye-catching photo shoot

She is known for her fondness of bright colours and bold prints.

But Nicki Minaj has taken her love of turning heads one step further in a new shoot for the Power Issue of American Vogue magazine.

The rapper can be seen painted a striking shade of blue in an image shot by photographer Steven Klein.

The sapphire shade presents a stark contrast to Nicki’s bubble gum pink curls and matching slick of lipstick.

The 29-year-old also wears a dramatic scarlet dress and matching opera gloves to complete her unusual look for the fashion magazine shoot.

And in an interview to accompany the creative photograph, the star opened up about how her style wasn’t always so distinctive.

She told the publication: ‘I was dressing in Tommy Hilfiger baggy shirts and Boss jeans, but then I met a person who dressed like a tiny lady—pantsuits, heels, lots of makeup.

‘I thought she was larger than life. She once did my makeup – I had never seen myself made up before. I didn’t want to wash it off; I felt like I had one day to live this fantasy of being a glamour girl.’

She also added that her eye-catching ensembles are ‘costumes, not outfits.’

And as well as telling the fashion magazine about her style discovery, the Super Bass rapper admitted that she didn’t always see herself ending up in the music industry.

She confessed: ‘A huge part of me wanted to be a lawyer. I would do a really good job as a prosecutor.’

Nicki has lent her name to MAC's ultra-altruistic Viva Glam range, for which all profits from make-up sold go to HIV and AIDS charities.

The star has designed a vibrant pink lipstick for the line, and has spoken out about her delight to be involved in the project.

She has said: ‘When I was chosen by MAC cosmetics to be the next Viva Glam spokesperson, I wanted to hug everyone that worked at MAC for giving me this opportunity.

'I've always wanted to be a Viva Glam girl.'

For both women it was a meeting that could have provoked the strangest feeling of deja vu.

There on the dais was the Queen. And in front of her, her own mother – or rather, Helena Bonham Carter, who played the Queen Mother in the hit film The King’s Speech.

The 45-year-old, who won the best actress Bafta for her role opposite Colin Firth who played the Queen’s father George VI, was at Buckingham Palace yesterday to collect her CBE.


It is understood that the Queen has seen the film, about the king’s battle to overcome his speech impediment, and enjoyed the actress’s portrayal of her late mother.

Miss Bonham Carter is renowned for her eccentric style of dress and did not disappoint when it came to her royal encounter, choosing an eye-catching tartan outfit believed to be by Dame Vivienne Westwood, teamed with super-high heels and a top hat perched on her trademark bird’s nest hair.

A real honour: The actress, who has twice been Oscar-nominated, made her name with a string of appearances in Merchant Ivory films

But the most noteworthy aspect of her outfit was, for once, not her clothes or her headwear – but the mobile phone in her hand.

For while most women tend to accessorise with a stylish little handbag, she was clutching a smartphone encased in a fluorescent pink cover with large bunny ears protruding from the top.

Miss Bonham Carter was accompanied to the Palace by her equally wild-haired husband, American film director Tim Burton, their children Billy Ray, eight, and four-year-old Nell, and her mother Elena.

Wearing in a black top, her blonde bob slicked down, she smiles and claps before putting her hand to her mouth.

In the movie, out on May 11, Cameron, 39, plays aspiring singer and pregnant weight loss show host Jules.

In the trailer, the blonde is seen talking to actor Matthew Morrison - Glee's New Directions coach - who plays Evan, a man who teams up with her character on a celebrity dance show.

It's fair to say that 2011 was Kim Kardashian's 'annus horribilis'.

Last year the golden girl of reality television saw her star plummet dramatically as her brief marriage saw her criticised for taking the concept of reality TV too far.

It's not over for the 31-year-old yet, either, as she is staring down the barrel of messy divorce proceedings after her ex-husband Kris Humphries, 27, refused to settle out of court.

He is also, according to several sources including Life and Style magazine, planning to file a complaint against Kim's mother, Kris Jenner.

So who could blame the brunette for wanting to get away for a bit?

And that's exactly what she did with best friend Jonathan Cheban a few days ago.
The pair headed off to Miami for some rest and relaxation.

And if Kim looked pensive, even haunted at times, she made up for it by sizzling in a selection of simple and beautifully flattering bikinis.

She seemed happy to be spotted in tasteful swimwear but according to Life and Style, Kim is devastated that by not settling out of court, Kris has opened their divorce up to the cameras.

A source told the magazine: 'Kim's freaking out, she has no interest in dragging out the divorce or having it play out on TV.

Kris wants to prove that Kim never intended to marry him and therefore committed fraud.

Jonathan may have to testify in court, he revealed: 'I hope it doesn't come down to that but I'll do what I need to do.'

But it seems Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh has decided to mix things up slightly, getting herself a bit of rough in the form of rapper Professor Green.

Following rumours of a romance earlier this month, the pair made their public debut at last night's BRIT Awards, posing up on the red carpet, with Millie even giving her new beau a cheeky kiss on the cheek.

Millie, 22, looked stunning in a strapless green dress, slashed to the thigh to show off her incredibly toned and tanned legs.

Later in the evening, the pair attended the Warner Music Brits afterparty, with Millie clinging to her beau as they made their way inside to the Gothic mansion which formed the venue for the event.

It was revealed earlier this month that Millie and Professor Green, 28, were dating, after they were spotted enjoying a romantic Valentine's Day stroll along King's Road in West London.

But while the rapper, who split from Hollyoaks actress Candy McCulloch in November, admitted he has been seeing a lot of Millie recently, he doesn't want to get involved in 'anything serious'.

He told The Sun newspaper: 'I don't want to be too tied down or get into anything serious too fast. But Millie is really fit.'

Millie was heartbroken in the second series of Made In Chelsea when she discovered her boyfriend Hugo Taylor had cheated on her with her best friend Rosie Fortescue.

'He cheated on me with someone that's not in the show. I don't want to go into it, but she's someone I know and I see her around.'

Brits double winner Adele makes a very rude gesture after show host James Corden interrupts her final winner's speech

Supported: Adele said the gesture was not aimed at her fans, and had won support from fans who took to Twitter to lambast the show for cutting her off

She was right in the middle of giving an emotional acceptance speech about how she was proud to be flying the flag for Britain.

So when she was interrupted so Brit Awards host James Corden could introduce Blur, Adele didn't take too kindly.

The singer, who had won the top award of the night, Album of the Year, flipped the middle finger to show just how annoyed she was.

Adele, who earlier performed a stunning rendition of Rolling In The Deep, said afterwards it was 'to all the suits' of the show.

The 23-year-old was on stage accepting her second award of the night - after taking home Best Female Artist - presented by George Michael.

She said: 'Thank you so much, thank you, thank you very, very much.

'Nothing beats coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year.

'I'm so proud to be flying the British flag for all of you.'

James then appeared on stage, met by boos from the crowd, and said: 'I'm so sorry, can I just cut off?'

Adele said: 'Are you about to cut me off? Can I just say then, goodbye and I'll see you next time round.'

She then proceeded to flip the bird, amid cheers from the audience.

James introduced Blur, who performed three songs. The group had earlier won the Outstanding Contribution Award and frontman Damon Albarn got away with made a rambling speech - the longest of the night.

An ITV spokesman said: 'The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption.'

The star said afterwards: 'I was about to thank the British public for their support. They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.'

A BRITs spokesman followed ITV's statement: 'We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running.

'We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her.'

Fans took to Twitter to support Adele, including several celebrities.

TV chef Jamie Oliver wrote: 'ITV Brits executive producer why did you cut off Adele! bloody rude ! shame anyway respect Adele well deserved jox.'

James spoke to Laura Whitmore at the post show party screened on ITV2. and said: 'I feel bad about having to cut Adele off I don't understand why I was made to.

'I was having the best night of my life and then I was told to cut her off. She's the biggest star in the world and I love her.

'I don't understand what happened I'm really upset.

It was only two weeks ago that M.I.A was pulling the middle finger during a performance at the Super Bowl.

She also swore into the camera during a rap solo, alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj.

The 36-year-old's camp claimed she was struck with 'a case of adrenaline and nerves'.

'She wasn't thinking,' said the source, who requested anonymity but was with the artist at Lucas Oil Stadium. "It wasn't any kind of statement.

'She was caught in the moment and she's incredibly sorry.'

Earlier last night, Adele accepted her award for Best Female Artist, in the first gong of the night, beating Florence & The Machine, Jessie J, Kate Bush and Laura Marling to Best Female Artist.

She was presented the gong by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, who looked gorgeous in a blue dress which had a large split up the front, showing her enviable legs.

Adele hugged the star, before joking: 'I feel like I look like a drag queen next to you... I'm wearing heels.'

Of the award, she said: ''Oh my god. Thank you so much... I'm shaking.'

Adele, the first artist to sell three million records in a year in the UK, thanked her record company 'for letting me be the kind of artist I wanted to be'.

She added: 'To all the fans no one's made me feel like I've had to be any different.

Host James Cordon joked afterwards: 'That's one hell of a successful tranny'.

Adele last Sunday won six Grammys in the U.S., including album of the year.

She made her live comeback following surgery on a throat hemorrhage last year and credited her boyfriend Simon Konecki - who accompanied her to the event - with helping her recover from the major procedure.
